About the Founders / Directors

Deb and Ariel are passionate about creating a sustainable resource for dancers and artists throughout Melbourne and across Australia at The Space. “So many young dancers have negative experiences with teachers and schools that undermine their confidence and push them too hard, causing them to lose the joy of dance,” Deb explains. “We wanted to create a relaxed environment where everyone—from beginners to professional performers—can feel comfortable and truly enjoy what they’re doing. Our goal is to foster creativity, nurture talent, and instill a lifelong love of dance.”

They initially started by creating a dance space for adults, focusing on connection and community. The Space serves as a non-judgmental haven where individuals can come together to express themselves and explore their creativity. Whether someone has never danced before or is a seasoned professional, everyone is treated with equal respect and encouragement. This inclusive approach allows dancers of all levels to thrive, build confidence, and find joy in movement without fear of judgment.

With their extensive backgrounds in dance and the arts, Deb and Ariel ensure The Space is a place where everyone can flourish. They believe that dance is not just about technique; it’s also about expression, community, and building connections. They strive to create a supportive atmosphere where dancers can explore their creativity and where teachers inspire rather than intimidate.

Deb and Ariel are proud parents to three wonderful kids: Charli, Eden, and Netani, who are fortunate to grow up in such a nurturing environment. And here’s a quirky fun fact about their family: the first initials of each of their names spell D.A.N.C.E. Yes, it may be a bit daggy, but it’s oh-so-appropriate!

With a focus on inclusivity and support, Deb and Ariel aim to transform the dance experience, making The Space a haven for artists of all ages and abilities. Together, they are committed to nurturing the next generation of dancers, ensuring that every individual finds their voice through movement and creativity.
