Kristina Diaz
Kristina Diaz B.A B.Ed Performing Arts
Traditional Argentine Tango Instructor & Performer
Known for her unique teaching style and innovative approach, Kristina has taught Tango across Australia and internationally. A life-long dancer, Kristina is one of Australia’s only Argentine-born female Tango instructors and performers.
In 1996, Kristina was the Associate Director, Lead Female Instructor and Lead Female Performer at Viva Dance & Entertainment Co. in Melbourne, Australia. It was there that she helped pioneer the Tango movement in Australia alongside fellow Argentine Christian Drogo. In 2003, she co-founded Viva Cabaret Restaurant Dance Bar with Christian. Kristina led the company in executing, coordinating and overseeing events, classes and day-to-day operations of the business as well as acting as Lead Female Instructor and Performer.
In 1998, Kristina established the Viva Annual Dance Tours. As an avid traveler, lover of world culture and along with her bilingual abilities, Kristina successfully co-coordinated and led tours of Viva dance student groups to her native Argentina and Cuba. It is on these trips that Kristina had the opportunity to study with well known tango instructors; her natural ability and her training with some of the greatest tango masters from Argentina give her a unique capacity to instill her students with a deep feeling for the subtle nuances of tango. She also draws inspiration from her extensive experience dancing with milongueros of Buenos Aires over her extended trips to Argentina.
As well as an instructor and performer, Kristina is an accomplished choreographer and promoter. Her credits include teaching Jacek Koman tango technique for his role in Moulin Rouge, choreography and performances in the Television Series “The Secret Life Of Us”, The Pig’s Breakfast (Children’s Show), extensive tango training & choreography for Circus Oz, "Satango -The Devil's Tango", an Australian musical as well as numerous other national commercials and television productions. Kristina has also given workshops, classes, and exhibitions all over Australia, New Zealand and the US. Her promotional work includes the First Australian Tango Festival, Carlos & Maria Rivarola Australian Tour, Tangoz Congress and various others.
In early 2007, Kristina left Viva Cabaret and took a well needed hiatus. She fulfilled a life long dream to travel and spent her time in Europe and the United States before returning home to Australia.
In 2008, Kristina embarked on her own dance venture “Dance with Kristina”. Kristina has a special talent for creating a fun and inspiring learning atmosphere for her students. She is excited to be back on the dance floor and looks forward to helping you take your dancing to the next level.
